WestJet Calgary Campus

Project Overview

WestJet new Calgary Campus in Alberta, built in 2008 was envisioned to be a LEED Gold Standard Building.

“Our geoexchange system was a key technology in qualifying our Calgary Campus for LEED®gold. Geoexchange has also allowed WestJet to reduce its greenhouse gas footprint by 1,250 tonnes per year.” – Sean Durfy, Past President & CEO

Solution

CleanEnergy consulted the mechanical design team on hybrid geoexchange systems of 545 tons. The system was designed to back-up the entire heating and cooling load of the building as failures were unacceptable.

CleanEnergy incorporated an innovative design solution by putting portion of the geoexchange piping in the building piles. This not only resulted in savings in the earth drilling but also reduced further the risk of any leaks to the ground. WestJet benefited from geoexchange –both on its bottom line and its carbon footprint a 35% energy consumption reduction.
